THE AVENGERS - "Earth's Mightiest Heroes"

In the Marvel Universe of Superheroes, they are the best of the best! Their members are usually the most popular characters in the Marvel Universe. And their adventures are often the most epic and imaginative.

Originally, Thor, Iron Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp came together to do something about a rampaging Hulk (Thor's brother Loki was trying to use the Hulk to kill Thor). Once the dust settled, the four of them, plus the Hulk decided to become a team. Creating a superhero community to prevent misunderstandings between heroes and better service (and communicate with) the public. Iron Man (aka Tony Stark), financed the team. He set them up in the Manhattan, Avengers Mansion, and provided them with his butler Jarvis to run the Mansion. Almost immediately the Avengers discovered the frozen body of Captain America, who quickly joined the team (once he thawed out that is).

After a while Thor, Iron Man, the Wasp and Ant-Man (now calling himself Giant-Man) took a leave of absence from the team. And they were replaced with three reformed villains, Hawkeye, Quick Silver and the Scarlet Witch. Captain America stayed on as their leader.

The Avengers are often working in conjunction with the United Nations and United States Government. Being granted official law enforcement status and security clearance. The team continues to change and grow, adding new members like Hercules, the Black Panther, the Vision, Black Widow, Mantis, Beast, Wonder Man, Ms. Marvel (now Captain Marvel), the Falcon, She-Hulk, Spider-Man, Power Man and many more. When called into action, they usually all pile into a Quinjet, custom aircraft created in Wakanda, home of the Black Panther.

In the movie THE AVENGERS, the team was created by the high tech law enforcement agency, S.H.I.E.L.D., and included Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow and the Hulk. Like the comics, the first villain was Loki, although in the movie he was working for Thanos.

In the second movie, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, the Vision, Scarlet Witch and Quick Silver appear. Although each of their origins are different from the comics.
